Thankful for America
Arnold Siegel —November 23, 2022

Here in America, November 2022, in the tradition begun by the Pilgrims, we give thanks. Though we live in a nation that is far from a perfect union, we have much to be thankful for. The opportunity to live a life of our own design is our birthright. Nonetheless and to be sure, its accomplishment is an extraordinary personal achievement.

Many of us recognize the history of autonomy and are grateful for those that dedicated their words and actions, and sometimes their lives, to create our freedom. When we take note of today, we are inspired by the shared hopes and deep and generous practices that enable our unique experience and illuminate our common stake in the evolving discourse of civilization. We identify with America’s form of fully human selfhood and, striving with virtuous intent to do our best, we commit to fulfill the promise of this nation.

We are grateful for the remarkable opportunities that have elevated so many. We are thankful for what we have achieved in our pursuit of happiness. Of course, there is still much to do and miles to go so no one is left behind. The journey for improving human life is long. Committed to our success individually and as a nation, we look to the future with optimism, conviction and confidence. We hope to carry on with the resourceful spirit, integrity and creativity characteristic of autonomy.

Lastly and more personally, you are in my heart and on my mind. I am thankful for your company on this journey and have great regard for the daily effort you make to fulfill the promise of America. I send my love to you and yours and wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
