Reality check

You want a lot out of life. So, let’s get real about what it actually takes to get it. Yes, it's worthwhile thinking about. As it turns out, no matter how well you process the practical demands of your day-to-day life, the heightened life that you sense possible doesn’t automatically follow. I can explain why.

Each of us believes that our thoughts, opinions, desires and anxieties are privately and uniquely formed in the substance of our mind. However, in fact, they are caused to appear, for better or for worse, by our systemic realities.

Typically, what we think and our point of view are given to us in a certain way by the conditions and circumstances in which we dwell. So, we wind up pretty much conforming to the views, practices, habits and thought patterns that others “see fit” to live.

In short, your uniqueness is very much a product of all that shaped you. You do have consumer and other choices within that mindset, of course. But if you wish to live a heightened life, to live your life as you see fit and to have a mind of your own, your expression of your autonomy must thoughtfully and pragmatically evolve.
